'Versus'
paper pulp, mixed media 18 x 14 x 2’’
The title ‘Versus’ suggests a conflict. Here We see many races of creatures taking part in some kind of a celebration. Almost all of them look at something on the right, most probably something of sensational character (even more sensational than the creature juggling with human heads - up right). There is excess of alcohol and food (suggested by the can and the fish rolling on the ground). As opposed to the whole celebration fury, the woman in front is depicted as a negative image (see the white shadowing and black highlights). She is also beheaded (maybe sacrificed during the ceremony, together with the other human beings). The painting represents the crowd/gang/ tribe/flock ‘instinct‘ hungry for spectacles (panem et circenscs - from Latin: ‘Bread and circuses’). The violation is of the human right to be ‘Human‘.
