‘She Died Twice’
‘She Died Twice’ This sculpture is dedicated to my grandmother, a woman who, in an extraordinary turn of events, died twice. After her first passing, my sister, a cardiologist, revived her with remarkable dedication; she subsequently passed away again a few hours later. The work uses a ‘Happy Joe’ bottle to contain my grandmother’s ‘spirit’, with the cap symbolising the futile attempt to confine the soul. Dimensions: 22 x 6 x 6’’ Materials: Paper pulp, acrylics ‘Jana’ is my interpretation of the Feminine, incorporating both practical and aesthetic perspectives. Historically, femininity has been associated with fertility, motherhood, and societal roles, as well as with beauty, sexuality, and moral expectations. 'The Rat Eater'
Dimensions: 20 x 16 x 3’’ Materials: Paper pulp, acrylic on canvas This work depicts a man, nude except for a scarlet zucchetto, set against a dark background with a rat, symbolising spiritual corruption and moral decay. His turning back from the light reflects vanity, aggression, and the violation of faith. Inspired by the Dead Can Dance lyrics ‘The Cardinal Sin’, the piece confronts the vulnerability of the human soul and its susceptibility to transgression.
